Without the activation of fibrinogen into fibrin, the fibrin mesh cannot be formed. This impedes blood clotting so the thrombus cannot form. Extrinsic Pathway Intrinsic Pathway Argatroban is administered intravenous so it is delivered to the site of action. Argatroban binds to the catalytic site of thrombin as well as the anion-binding exosite. This prevents the enzymatic activity of thrombin to cleave fibrinogen into fibrin monomers.
