Delavirdine (also known as Rescriptor) is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that can be used for treating HIV-1. Delavirdine can bind and inhibit the reverse transcriptase so that the DNA polymerase activities can be prevented, which lead to disruption of the enzyme's catalytic site and eventually lead to prevention of cell growth.
